Transgender Activist Vladimir Luxuria Says She Was Detained Twice So Far At The Sochi Olympics

The former member of the Italian parliament has been vocalizing her support for gay rights at the Sochi Olympics and claims to have been detained twice in two days.

This is Vladimir Luxuria. She is a former Communist Refoundation Party parliament member in Italy and Europe's first openly transgender parliamentarian.

On Sunday, she says she was detained for several hours by Russian authorities for carrying a sign that said "Gay is OK". The police deny these claims.

After being released, Luxuria told the AP that she was escorted to a car on Monday by four men without identification and dropped off in the middle of nowhere for shouting "it's OK to be gay" and wearing an all-rainbow ensemble.
